Android 2.1 has been availalbe through the Nexus One for over a week now, but the SDK has only been made available now. There are a number of new APIs on board, including for the animated wallpapers, network signal detail, UI tweaks, geolocation permissions, databases. No real tells at first glance. No major resolution changes or super-duper space-age improvements. And unless you're a coder, none of this is for you. But the bottom line is it means newer and better apps are on the way.

Software updates include new emulator skins for content creators which will assist them in creating applications for different screen sizes and resolutions, a very handy thing to have.It also includes an application that allows developers to test third party sync adapters, as well as some changes to the framework and interface.
Google has announced that all Android 2.0 devices will be running 2.0.1 by the end of the year. The 1.6 platform was also updated for developers, adding more needed functionality and permissions for creators.
